Thinking about becoming an Authorised Body Principal?

Becoming an Authorised Body Principal is an exciting step, that comes with important responsibilities. CBN NZ can help you understand what is involved, essential standards and whether this pathway is right for you.

What CBN NZ will consider

Our doors are always open to new Advisers who have:

1. NZ Certificate in Financial Services Level 5 General Insurance.
2. 5+ years of relevant general insurance broking experience.
3. A business plan and growth strategy.
4. An up-to-date CPD history.
5. Industry references and meet fit and proper requirements.

For some advisers, the best next step is to build experience within an existing brokerage before applying to operate as an Authorised Body Principal.

Appointing a Principal Adviser

You may be able to appoint a suitably qualified and experienced Principal Adviser, subject to approval and appropriate supervision arrangements.

Common questions

Do I keep ownership of my book?

Yes. Your business and client relationships remain yours.

Do I need to provide my own technology?

CBN NZ provides access to systems and platforms designed to support advisers and Authorised Bodies but you need to provide your own hardware i.e. laptop, tablet, phone etc.

Can I become an Authorised Body Principal with less than five years’ experience?

Possibly, but each application is assessed on its merits. Relevant experience, demonstrated competency and readiness to supervise advisers remain important considerations.

What support do I get?
